Nursultan Nazarbayev has made a working trip to the central city of the republic where he familiarized himself with the course of the “Khan Shatyr” retail and entertainment centre’s construction and a number of housing facilities. He also appraised the quality of a new bridge across the Yesil River and gave a start to the construction of a unique architectural structure – the “Abu Dhabi Plaza” high-rise complex.
The project of the “Khan Shatyr” shopping mall was developed by the famous British architect Lord Norman Foster who is known to Kazakh people, first of all, thanks to the palace of peace and accord.
He is also the architect of one more grand project which will be implemented in Astana, the “Abu Dhabi Plaza” high-rise complex. There has never been a building of this magnitude in Kazakhstan before. It will be unique in terms of both its area and height. “The Abu Dhabi Plaza” is a housing estate, a hotel and an office centre all in one. There will be the largest car park in Kazakhstan under the skyscraper designed for 4500 motor vehicles. It is planned to build a monorail between the complex and the airport.
Nursultan Nazarbayev, President of Kazakhstan:
- This complex costs about 2 billion US dollars. Its height equals 362 metres and there will be 88 floors. This building will be the 14 tallest building in the world.
Arab investors are sinking money into the “Abu Dhabi Plaza”. This decision was made by the president of the United Arab Emirates. Today, his representatives have taken part in the laying of the foundation stone. This ceremony is the official start of construction.
