Your Excellency Askar Mussinov, Kazakhstan Ambassador to the UAE

Your Excellency Yerlan Kozhasbay, Chairman of the Kazakhstan Chamber of Commerce and Industry

Your Excellencies,

Al Salamu Alaykum,

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you today on my behalf and on behalf of my brothers the members of the board of directors of the UAE Federation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the UAE business sector as guests of the United Arab Emirates.

It is a happy occasion that we get together to consolidate the friendship of our two countries knowing that the leadership of our two countries are keen on improving these ties and facilitate all forms of mutual cooperation between the people and governments of our two friendly countries particularly the support they give to the private sector and business men in order to create opportunities of strong mutual cooperation.

On this respect I am glad to refer to the numerous joint cooperation agreements between the two countries that covered most functions and activities. The latest agreement was signed last month. They were three memorandums of understanding to boost the existing strategic partnership in the fields of energy, petrochemicals and metallurgical industries.

Signing these agreements comes as per the directions of the higher authorities to increase investments channeled to Kazakhstan. Our two countries have strong political ties and joint interests and they were able to achieve rapid growth in a short time. The UAE has become Kazakhstans first commercial partner in the region. Commercial exchange between the two countries in 2007 was around 300 million Dollar and the UAE investments in Kazakhstan was around 64 million Dollar. Signing these agreements is the foundation of a new era of cooperation and opens wide doors for mutual cooperation in economic, commercial, investment, and tourism fields which further enhance friendly ties and takes the exceptional relationship between the two countries into a new level of development.

Ladies and Gentlemen,
The UAE and Kazakhstan have covered a long distance in improving economic ties and joint cooperation in all fields. The UAE embassy in Astana, on the level of extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador, was opened in October 2005 to be the first Arabic and Islamic embassy in the Kazakhstani capital. In 2006 a Kazakhstan embassy has been opened in Abu Dhabi which reflects the extent of the development of mutual ties.

The establishment of a joint Cooperation Committee between the two countries will contribute towards improving bilateral relations. The Committee is responsible for improving various areas of cooperation. Through this committee the two parties have been able to conclude numerous agreements on protecting investments and encouraging mutual investments have been signed.

The Continuous development of bilateral ties is reiterated by our mutual desire to achieve more cooperation in various fields. The Cooperation agreement and the establishment of a UAE-Kazakhstan Business Council is one of the means that will bring us together to consult and exchange views on issues that will improve our joint cooperation. Our areas of cooperation are diverse and the business council will the first step towards even more comprehensive ties and will help activate investments, execute joint projects, improve commercial exchange, and establish pioneering companies.

The UAE Federation of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry being the Federal organization responsible for the business sector has contributed effectively in supporting and improving economic ties through holding conferences, economic forums, and arranging the Made in Emirates series of exhibitions that has successfully shed the light on the quantum of our national products. These exhibitions were of interest to business men and investors and as a result of them a long national products has made its way to Arabic and International markets as well as successfully replacing foreign goods in the local market.

The UAE participation in the Gulf exhibitions that was held in Astana was a major and effective event that has crucial in improving commercial ties between the two counties.

We hope that our meeting will be successful in formulating resolutions and recommendations that will contribute towards creating more profitable investments and holding a UAE-Kazakhstan partnership that will beneficial for all.

Finally I hope thet this meeting will be a springboard to create strong economic ties based on mutual interests. Once again I welcome you in the UAE.

Al Salamu Aleykum
